Reading is thinking. During this unit, students will show their thinking as they read by annotating the text. Student readers will engage with a text and should be able to read on multiple levels. In this unit students will explore how to read on the literal, inferential, and critical levels. The literal level thinker can repeat and summarize what the text says, while the inferential level thinker can read between the lines of the text to draw inferences and make conclusions. The critical level thinker can make the deeper connections that tie the text to themes and big ideas.
